Statement of Service for International Students

The University of Glasgow Careers Service aims to enhance the employability of all the University's students and graduates. It aims to do this through a quality service that:
  • Helps students and recent graduates develop and make appropriate use of career management skills, thereby enhancing their ability to identify options most appropriate to them
  • Collaborates with academic staff and employers in the development of curricula which provide undergraduates and postgraduates with key skills and self-awareness in order to increase their employability
  • Informs the University and the wider community of changes in the graduate employment market Markets students and graduates of the university to all types of employers and training providers
Careers Services exist in many countries around the world. Service provision can vary greatly. Students often carry expectations from one country to another which can in turn lead either to pleasant surprises or to disappointments. So it is important that we are clear what you can expect from this Careers Service and what you cannot.
What we cannot deliver:
  • We are not a placement agency. We can offer you advice and guidance in your job search but we cannot place you into employment or make applications on your behalf.
  • We are not an English language service and cannot therefore correct spelling or grammatical errors within applications.
  • We are not authorised to give advice on any individual student's eligibility for work permits in the UK after graduation. Within the University only the international student advisers are permitted to offer this particular service.

What you can expect from us:
  • A range of confidential one-to-one interviews - we aim to offer you an appointment normally within three weeks.
  • A range of careers events, organised and promoted by us - Employer recruitment seminars and information events throughout Scotland, the UK and Europe, for example the Summer Graduate Fair in Scotland.
  • A series of career planning seminars including Effective CVs, Application Forms and Successful Interviews, run during term-time.
  • A comprehensive range of current information resources, in a variety of formats. Free take-away and reference material covering a variety of careers-related material. If you have a disability we will endeavour to obtain the information required in a format to meet your needs.
  • Access to graduate vacancies for permanent employment, vacation work, internships and part-time work though our web site.
  • A continually up-dated web-site offering current and relevant careers-related information.

How you can help us improve our service

We welcome feedback at all times on any of our services in order to continuously improve the service we provide. Feedback received through our website will be read within 2 working days of receipt and directed to the relevant staff members for action. Where requested, we will aim to provide a response within 2 weeks of receipt.

Give feedback

If you have a complaint, please contact the Director, Jane Weir. This will be dealt with confidentially and normally within 5 working days.
