Background

Applications are invited for the post of LE3 Trade Officer in the UK Trade and Investment team (UKTI) of the British Embassy, Beijing.  UK Trade & Investment is the government organisation that helps UK-based companies succeed in the global economy and assists overseas companies to bring their high quality investment to the UK. 

Main Purpose of the Job:

The role is split 50/50 between the Life Sciences sector and the Education & Skills sector.
The position holder will work within both teams, which are currently led from Beijing and Guangzhou respectively.    

The ideal candidate will have previous sectoral experience in the Life Sciences or Education sectors, excellent organisational and networking skills, in order to establish good working relationships with both Government and Industry contacts in China and the UK.

Main Responsibilities:

·                     Contribute to overall UKTI team targets (both OMIS revenue and Service Delivery targets) of helping UK companies to win or expand their business in China;
·                     To develop an excellent working knowledge of the sectors and keep abreast of industry capabilities and developments in both China and the UK.;
·                     Assist Sector leads in carrying out all sector responsibilities;
·                     Develop and maintain a network of government and industry contacts, liaising with counterparts;
·                     Provide support in relation to UK-China Joint Economic Trade Commission (JETC) Healthcare Trade & Investment Working Group;
·                     Plan and contribute to staging commercial seminars and inward/ outward missions (working with the China Britain Business Council as appropriate);
·                     Identify and publicise business opportunities on the UKTI portal; and
·                     Responding to requests from companies in the sector and delivering services under OMIS as appropriate.
·                     Leading on vocational and medical training across China.

Personal Qualities and Skills Requirements:

·         Candidates should have a minimum of  2-3 years work experience, preferably in an international trade environment;
·         Proven leadership and management skills;
·         Excellent organisational skills;
·         Good interpersonal and communication skills;
·         Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team;
·         Fluency in written and spoken Chinese and English;
·         Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel and Outlook)
·         We are particularly keen to receive applications from candidates with working experience in the Life Sciences, and Education & Skills sectors

General Conditions:

The starting gross Salary for this position before all deductions is RMB8,086/month. The successful candidate will be employed under locally employed staff conditions within the British Embassy.  Conditioned working hours are 35 hours/week from Monday to Friday. There will be the occasional need, especially during VIP visits, to work additional hours for which overtime or time off in lieu will be given.
